
Hard drives just stay getting more and more capacity. At CES, Samsung has revealed the new Spin point M6, the world’s first 2.5 inch hard drive with a 500GB capacity. It’s in fact made up of three separate 166GB platters, but the three fit together to be just 9.5 mm tall, so it can fit into any number of different devices without reason a particular size challenge. Simple physics and math will tell you that you could get a terabyte of storage ability by putting two drives in a notebook. The Spin point M6 has a 5400 rpm spindle speed; an 8MB and a 3.0Gbps SATA interface. Samsung also included their Flyiing on Demand head technology which provides for better recording constancy when the temperature is altering. A free fall sensor and a rotating vibration sensor are easy to get to as optional features. The drive is expected to hit the market at March, at an as yet unknown price.
